Borrowed Pasture

One of the ways we've managed in this drought is by borrowing five acres of pasture from our wonderful neighbors, the Benders. Here you can see our temporary arrangements for milking in the machine shed: in the back is our green grooming stanchion, pinch-hitting as a milking stanchion; in front is a simple wooden head gate with side bar. On the left is a stock panel bent to make a small calf pen; to close it, we bent it into a circle and used two carabiners to clip it shut. This arrangement worked for almost three months, and saved a lot of home pasture for the coming winter.
