a long thank you - the kachelofen
Here you can see more clearly how large the base for the kachelofen is - five by eight feet, in a basement that isn't more than 22'x29', it takes up a lot of room. Bud and Raym are standing on boards supported by corbels they've put into the brickwork, and after the house is finished those corbels will hold up shelves and this brick foundation will be a pantry for some of our canned goods.
The kachelofen will sit on top of this pantry, a massive presence in the greatroom which itself takes up most of the first floor. Cold people will curl up on the bench built into the west end of the masonry.
We are so blessed. Catch us this weekend at HOA's women's retreat - Shawn is speaking, too.
