The Sow's Ear's breeding program, covering our Jersey cross cows with our registered Dexter bull Prince Charles, is producing animals we're really proud of.

Over a decade of managed grazing and an all-grass diet is resulting in pasture-wise animals that build milk and muscle out of rough forage and manage their health with native medicinal plants. No grain, no meds, and no biocides are necessary to keep these girls in the pink.

Selection for proper udder conformation and a longer teat length is paying off now in the form of heifers who are good to milk and good at mothering. Handles are long enough for a good grasp and a good squirt. Milk production is high by grass standards: some of our first-calf heifers are feeding large calves 24/7 and still putting a gallon of milk or more in the bucket daily.
