Look how Ashley’s chickens are tearing up turf in preparation for a new garden in the spring. We love our Suskovitch tractors all year ’round; in summer are covered with tarps for shade, and in winter we cover them with 6 mil plastic sheeting to make little sliding greenhouses for the chickens.

How long do you leave it to plant, after fertilising with hot chicken manure?
How well does the 6 mil plastic hold up in high wind. I live on the plains of Oklahoma were strong wind is frequent.
So, on the convent hilltop we get periodic high winds – 50+mph – not as high as we used to get in OK, but high enough! We’ve learned to cover the plastic sheeting with plastic netting (like bird or locust netting) – it prevents the corners or small tears from flapping, which is how tears start. Every once in a blue moon we’ll get winds strong enough to push a tractor a few feet, which is no problem most of the time, although once it moved fast enough that it ran over a chicken.
